The Côte des Basques in Biarritz, France is considered one of the cradles of European surfing. The beach has a long surfing history, dating back to the 1950s.
Initially, the practice of surfing was reserved for a handful of locals and travelers who were attracted by the powerful waves of the Côte des Basques. Over the years, surfing has become increasingly popular, and the beach has quickly become a meeting place for surfers from all over the world.
In the 1960s, Biarritz hosted its first international surfing championship, featuring surfers from California, Hawaii, Australia and beyond. Surfing has become a serious competitive sport, with world-renowned surfers flocking to Biarritz to compete in events such as the Quiksilver Maider Arosteguy, European Longboard Championship, and more.
